ON WINGS OF SONG

A programme of ballads and duets from the Victorian era

Miss Glenys Groves - Soprano

Miss Andrea Hazell - Mezzo Soprano

At the piano - Miss Jennifer Partridge

‘On Wings of Song’ was originally devised for the Lunchtime Recital Series at The Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, where it was performed to great acclaim in the Crush Room with subsequent equally successful performances in and around London.

The well-researched original programme, comprising entertaining but lesser known compositions, has now been expanded to provide a truly charming and memorable evening entertainment and includes ballads, duets and piano pieces that are as well known today as they were when they were performed as home entertainment during the reign of Queen Victoria.

Songs, duets and piano pieces from Victorian operetta and operas such as The Opera Ball, The Tales of Hoffman, The Bohemian Girl are included, together with works by eminent Victorians such as Gilbert and Sullivan, Felix Mendelssohn and Sir Edward Elgar.

‘On Wings of Song’, in its original one-hour lunchtime format or as an expanded full-length evening programme, provides discerning audiences with an unforgettable entertainment reminiscent of the elegance and charm of a typical Victorian Soirée.

Glenys, Andrea and Jennifer have recorded a CD of the original ‘On Wings of Song’ programme. Copies of the CD, together with further information on programming and bookings can be obtained by contacting:
